Vox Wall Speaker Cabinet • Single 10” Celestion Loudspeaker Unit • Late 60s in England
Vox public address wall speaker cabinet made in England the late 60s was likely distributed by the Thomas Organ company. These were known as the LS-10 in the UK, the V123 Grenadier III in the US, and was catalogue number 080. I have also heard them referred to as "church speakers".
It contains a single 10” Celestion model 7721 15-ohm 10-watt ceramic speaker. The cabinet is very compact and was designed to be mounted on a wall.
The cabinet has a nice worn-in and mellow tone - sounds great with guitars and other re-amped signals. I recommend using an amplifier that can eq some of the bass frequencies out to even it out a bit. I have noticed some minor/mild buzzing on louder lower frequency content while playing. The speaker does not appear to have any likely due to age. Not an issue at lower volumes and with the bass rolled off.
I added a 1/4” jack for connecting it to amplifiers. I used an existing keyhole slot to mount the jack so I didn’t have to drill a hole and the new parts are easy to remove if you want.
The cabinet itself is in great shape with some wear to the grill cloth - it still has the original logo badge! There is some wear to the top of the cabinet, and one of the original screw washers is missing (replaced).
